St. John’s Vision of Christian Education
St. John’s Christian Education programs for God’s children of all ages are both vibrant and informative.
In the children’s Sunday School program, there is a strong fellowship that is shared amongst the teachers and the Director of Christian Education as well as a camaraderie shared amongst the students of each class. The relationships developed are an important goal of the program and are deliberately nurtured. The curriculum is based primarily on the Bible and the children are demonstrably learning and retaining the traditional stories and what those stories teach about having a relationship with God and with Jesus in the 21st century. Our children are encouraged and taught not only how to worship in God’s house but also how to take an active role in Sunday’s services such as lay reading, ushering, and singing during the offertory. Special programs are offered for the children throughout the year such as an Advent event, Christmas pageants, communion classes, and baptismal classes. The children also actively participate, and are taught why it is important to participate, in outreach projects both locally and globally.
Different small group programs of varying length are offered for Adult Christian Education by the clergy as well as by other adult parishioners throughout the program year, either in the day or in the evening, including confirmation classes, book studies, and Bible studies.
