
Ministry: Acolytes
Position: Acolyte/Crucifer
Purpose: To help the celebrant during the service and to assist others on the altar in the conduct of the service.
Responsibilities: To help further this purpose, the acolyte must:
Attend routine training session for acolytes at all levels of experience.
Show up on time when scheduled as an acolyte. The acolyte must also take care of his/her robes and hang them neatly in the acolyte robe closet in the Youth Room when the service is concluded.
Qualifications: An acolyte should have completed second grade and be a parishioner in good standing (regularly attending services). Acolytes must also have a desire to serve and must arrange for stand-ins when there is a conflict in schedule. Adult acolytes are welcome, especially at the 10:45 service.
Amount of Time Required: No more than 1 hour for training. Typically 1 to 2 services per month serving as an acolyte except during the holidays when additional service is desired.
When Ministry is Performed: During Sunday services, at all services. Acolytes also may be called upon to serve for funerals, weddings and special services (Evensong, Easter Vigil, Confirmation, Ordination, etc.)
Length of Commitment: As long as you wish to serve.
Training Provided: Acolyte training occurs on an as-needed basis. Initial training sessions occur shortly after “start up” Sunday in September. Refresher training sessions normally take place throughout the year, usually on Saturday mornings.
