Ministry: Altar Guild

Position:  Altar Guild Member

Purpose:  To prepare the altar and the church (brass polishing, hymnal number board setup, flowers, candles in windows for special services, etc.) for the forthcoming service and to clean up thereafter.

Responsibilities Altar Guild members serve in one of four groups, performing a multi- part operation to make the services run smoothly with the proper linens, vessels, flowers, and whatever else is needed for the forthcoming service.  Fr. Jonathan is a tremendous help, and we, in turn, strive to make his ministry easier. Members are responsible for getting a substitute for themselves if they are unable to serve the day or week scheduled.

Qualifications A sense of duty, reverence and humor.  Both men and women serve on the Altar Guild.

Amount of Time Required Three mornings a month (divided among the members of the team), unless there is a funeral, wedding or special service. Twice a year the Altar Guild comes together to polish, wash linens, clean out cupboards as necessary, and to have a good time together as a whole entity.

When Ministry is Performed Whenever there is a service in the church. For individuals, once a month on a Saturday morning from 9:00 to about 10:00 and on the following Sunday morning. (Services are divided among the team members).

One or two members set up for and clean up after the Wednesday morning service.

Length of Commitment Forever or as long as you care to participate

Training Provided On-the-job training provided by your co-workers. There is also an excellent reference manual written by a former long-term member.
