St. John's Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden at St. John’s is designed as a place of tranquil beauty, set aside for the interment of ashes and for prayer and meditation. Located behind the church and parish house, the garden is enclosed with shrubs and planted with a variety of seasonal flowers.

All members of St. John’s and their families may be buried in the Memorial Garden. Others may be interred at the discretion of the Rector.

Ashes are either buried in the loose soil or place in a linen bag before burial so that they will become assimilated with the earth. Each burial plot is approximately 1 foot square by 18 inches deep. No markers are placed on individual plots. A bronze plaque on the wall of the parish house holds individual nameplates, identical in size and shape and giving the names and the dates of birth and death of the deceased.

The cost for burial in the garden is $350. This includes the plot, its perpetual care, the cost of the burial and the nameplate for the memorial plaque. A Certificate of Right to Burial may be prepaid and place with other important papers gathered for those in charge of one’s burial.
