Nurturing Spirituality at Home

Please click on the above link for a brief guide for parents on nurturing spirituality at home.  The guide is put out by Sharon Ely Pearson, Christian Formation Specialist  at Church Publishing.

Resource from our friends in the Diocese of Lebombo, Mozambique

Please click on the link above to see a resource from Mozambique (with thanks to Roger LeCompte for translating!) that connects Scripture passages with events in the life of Jesus and with social behaviors.
We hope this will be a useful resource in addition to the "Faith at Home" bulletin inserts. Enjoy!

Sunday School at St. John's

St. John’s Episcopal Church is committed to providing a loving, joyful, and safe environment where children can learn how to walk the path of faith and realize their full potential as Christians.  Our Sunday School program is for youngsters from Pre-Kindergarten through high school and begins after the 9am Family Eucharist service.  During the closing song, the children follow the crucifer downstairs to the undercroft for refreshments and classes, which end at 10:40am.  (Parents of PreK/K children are asked to meet their child downstairs at the end of class.)  Sunday School classes run from the Sunday after Labor Day to the first Sunday in June.

In an effort to include children in worship, the clergy give children’s sermons at least twice monthly and we also have musical offerings by the children as much as possible.

The Sunday School bulletin boards are in the undercroft and the parish hall where you can see upcoming events, photos, birthdays, etc.   The monthly newsletter also gives news and current projects.

Curriculum and Activities

The Church School Curriculum for the elementary grades is Living the Good News, a lectionary based curriculum put out by Church Publishing.
The older classes use a mixture  of videos, games, Bible Study and discussion.
In addition to meeting in classes divided by grade level, we also have monthly group classes where we: pray together, learn more about the Bible, Christian tradition, and the needs of our local and global communities. We also create projects that reach out to others.   Some of our projects include creating cards or crafts to share with those who are ill or in need, Advent wreath making, and various projects that reach out to the local and world community.

In December, we have the popular Christmas pageant and we will be staging a musical in the spring .

We look forward to seeing your child in Sunday School!
